TERRITORY:
The physical environment of the Park is basically divided into two different geomorphological sectors. The first type, distinguished by the harsh, sharp lines of the landscape, is dominated by red tuff, a volcanic rock creating wide valleys with rocky walls; the second is dominated by flysch a sedimentary rock formed of clay and limestone creating rolling hills without steep slopes.
There are two main watercourses: the Biedano and the Vesca.
FLORA:
The vegetation differs in the two natural environments characterising the park. The tuffaceous valleys are covered by poplar, alder, willow, walnut and elder. The hills are wooded with Turkey-oak, field maple, and manna-ash. A variety of flowers bloom in the undergrowth including snow-drops, violets, primroses, and cyclamins. There are also many wild orchids.
FAUNA:
The fauna is extremely varied. The mammals include the marten, hare, wild cat, porcupine, badger, beech marten and fox.
The birds include the short-toed eagle, lanner falcon, roller, kestrel and stone curlew.
